Summer Days

It would be an understatement to say that I am ready for summer.  Summers have changed since being in high school and living at home, but I enjoy them no less than I did before.  I will be home for only a month this time around and much of it will be spent working, but I always make time to savor the beautiful weather.

Our area is great because we not only have gorgeous white beaches, but quiet bayous as well, which are perfect for days when the tourists take over, or nights when my friends and I can just sit and enjoy each other's company with no distractions except the stars.  My neighborhood has a private park for residents with a dock for sunbathing, fishing, or usually for me: relaxing mid-run.  It is the perfect spot to soak in the weather and breathe.  At one point growing up, it was the only place I could find complete solitude.  I am so grateful for our little park and our neighbors who help keep it safe and clean.

I even had my high school senior pictures taken here because I love it so much! (Yes, Wally was a part of the photo shoot; we're a package deal.)

Now I'll leave you with this video I made last year when I was missing everyone.  I use a Flip video camera; its waterproof case is my best friend during the summer months.  This is just a bunch of clips from our various water activities all stitched together.  Enjoy!

What is your favorite summer activity?

Or one of your favorites from growing up?

Do you have any fun plans for this summer?

The Little Things

Some days are terrible. Some days are just plain awful. Some days I oversleep, get to class late, trip up the stairs, get cut off while driving, and then the garbage bag breaks right as I'm tossing it into the dumpster. On those days, I just want to lay down on the floor and cry. And cry, and cry, and cry.....

And then eat ice cream. After such a crappy day of events, I need only one little thing to completely turn my day around. I think everyone has their own list of "little things" that cure anything. Here's mine:

  • Listening to This Must Be The Place by The Talking Heads
  • Watching Friends with Kids, You've Got Mail, or Law & Order: SVU
  • A cookies & cream cupcake from Sweet! by Good Golly Miss Holly
  • A head nuzzle from Kat
  • Seeing a funny face from my roommate Chloe
  • A call from my mom or dad
  • Leveling up in my new app obsession Hay Day. (No, this is not Farmville. And no, I did not play Farmville, and....What? How do I know what Farmville was if I never played it? Okay just shut up, it's not the same.)
  • Making art. No matter what it is. Sketching, painting, anything with glass. Using some kind of creative outlet.
  • And finally, hugs. Hugs are so underrated, but so simple...and much cheaper than a cupcake!

What's on your list?
